Rebellious Jukebox

On Tuesday night I moved a step closer to having my own radio show for the first time since college. At the latest meeting of the minds for WRFU--actually more like a meeting of the warm bodies--I found out that my proposal (with cohort Donovan) has been accepted, and we got our preferred time slot of 8-10pm on Wednesdays. We'll be switching off weeks so as not to burn out too soon.

That's the good news. The bad news is: for various reasons, it doesn't look like the FM station will be on the air anytime soon. It might be 3 months, or more. As Tom Petty says, "the waiting is the hardest part". But in the meantime, I've got lots of stuff to do to pass the time. One of those things is the ongoing collection of found sound material to use as filler and segues during my show. Thanks to some new web discoveries, I'm turning up some truly bizarre stuff, from recorded exorcisms (that are hilarious, not scary) to a conversation between Ludwig van Beethoven and the Hunchback of Notre Dame (uh, ya gotta hear it to believe it).

Anyway, I'll also be lobbying the station to make sure that they have a reliable online feed, so that peeps outta town can listen in.

The only other thing left to do is to find a compromise with Donovan on a name for the show. That could take a while, if the naming of my mp3 blog was any indication.
